Hong Kong Hakka Association Awards Over 1.77 Million in Scholarships to Hakka Students
The 2023-2024 Hakka Student Scholarship Award Ceremony of the Hong Kong Hakka Association was recently held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. The total amount of scholarships and grants for this year’s program is 1.775 million Hong Kong dollars (HKD).
This program received applications from Hakka students from 360 primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. After a rigorous selection process, 220 primary school students and 223 secondary school students were awarded scholarships of 3,000 yuan and 5,000 yuan respectively, totaling 1.775 million yuan.
Wu Huiquan, chairman of the Hong Kong Hakka General Association, stated that this year’s number of applicants and winners has reached a record high compared to previous scholarship programs. He also announced that if future applicants pass the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, the association will award each Hakka student a bonus of 50,000 yuan to encourage them to study hard and strive for better results.
Wu Huiquan expressed his hope that Hakka youth will utilize their knowledge and wisdom to contribute to the country and society, and inherit the excellent Chinese culture.
Chan Pak-li, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, attended the ceremony and praised the hard work and achievements of outstanding Hakka students. He emphasized that the Hong Kong SAR Government is committed to creating opportunities for young people and hopes that Hong Kong youth will demonstrate the Hakka people’s determination to work hard and achieve success in their studies, ultimately creating a better future for Hong Kong and the motherland.
