Hong Kong woman arrested in Doxxing case Over Unpaid Loan
Doxxing Incident Rooted in 2018 Loan Dispute
A 60-year-old woman in Hong Kong was arrested for allegedly disclosing the personal details of a former schoolmate, according to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data South China Morning Post. the incident stems from a financial dispute originating in 2018.
The victim, facing financial difficulties while operating a factory, borrowed money from the arrested woman, a former secondary school acquaintance. The loan initially totaled approximately HK$20 million (US$2.6 million) and included a provision for monthly interest payments.
Loan Repayments Ceased in 2025
The victim initially agreed to pay interest on the loan each month, causing the total debt to reach around HK$20 million. However, interest payments stopped in early 2025, according to the Privacy Commissioner’s investigation South China morning Post.
Between April and May, the victim’s neighbor began receiving fliers containing “adverse comments” about the victim’s inability to repay the debt. The Office of the privacy Commissioner for Personal Data categorized this as doxxing.
