Team Hong⁢ Kong Secures Runner-Up Spot in ‍Greater Bay Area Basketball Tournament

Release date: 2024-09-18 19:04

Team⁢ Hong ⁣Kong, led by former⁢ Olympic gold medalist Chavas, has‌ secured a runner-up spot⁢ in the Hong Kong leg of the ⁣Greater Bay ⁤Area Basketball Tournament, advancing to the finals.

The team, supported by Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Chavas, ⁤consists of ⁤Bai Dexinli, Zhong Xiaoying, and Yu Pusheng.‍ With a total of five stations in ⁣the tournament, the top three teams from each station will advance to the⁣ finals, scheduled ‌to take place in Macau next month.

Chavas, a⁤ 38-year-old Latvian golfer, joined the team at the beginning of⁤ the month. ⁢Despite‌ a⁢ disappointing group stage ‍performance in the ⁤FIBA Kaohsiung Challenge last week, the ‌team bounced back in the Hong Kong leg, winning ⁢both‌ group games and⁣ advancing ‍to the top 16. After three‍ more rounds, they entered the championship game and secured a spot‌ in the‍ finals.

Although Team Hong Kong ultimately lost to Fujian‌ Jinniu 8-22, finishing second, Chavas expressed his love for Hong Kong and praised the local players. “I have said ⁤many times that I love Hong Kong. Although the level here is not as good as ⁣FIBA competitions, I still like local players to come and play⁤ and enjoy the ‌game,” he said.

Chavas, a silver medalist in the ⁣3-person basketball tournament in Hong Kong, emphasized the importance of⁤ patience and defense in the game. “You have to be patient in the game, because‍ many players only ⁢want to attack. In fact, defense is the ‌key to victory. Attacking ⁤may win you⁣ one or two ⁤games, but defense requires observation and‍ communication ⁤with teammates.”

He believes that Hong Kong’s young players have potential, but there is ⁢room‌ for improvement in many aspects. “I see many team players here with great potential, so as long as they continue⁤ to work hard, I believe the level of‍ three-person⁤ basketball in Hong Kong will improve.”
