Labor Minister Responds to Education Criticism
Labor Minister Hong Shenhan recently faced scrutiny over his educational background. He addressed these concerns after undergoing eye surgery. Hong stated that he respects people’s opinions about his education but emphasized that his role is to assist workers, regardless of their educational qualifications.
Hong, who attended National Taiwan University and studied Atmospheric Sciences, shared on Facebook that he left college due to his surgery. He mentioned that explaining his past at 40 years old feels unnecessary. He acknowledged that some view his educational qualifications unfavorably. This realization prompted him to engage in social movements, focusing on the needs of grassroots and underprivileged communities.
He declared his mission: “No matter your educational qualifications are good or bad, as long as you are a worker, I will find a way to support you.”
Regarding complaints about weekend overtime for Ministry of Labor employees, Hong apologized. He admitted that he had not communicated effectively. He announced that all departmental business reports would be postponed to the next workweek to give employees adequate time.
This response highlights Hong’s commitment to worker support and his acknowledgment of past errors in management practices.
