Junior right-hander Isaiah Magdaleno led the Hawai’i baseball team to a 1-0 victory over UC Riverside on Friday, May 1, 2026, delivering a complete-game shutout at Les Murakami Stadium.
Magdaleno recorded a career-high 16 strikeouts during the performance, which marked the most strikeouts by a University of Hawai’i pitcher since at least 2002. He faced 30 batters and threw 78 of his 107 pitches for strikes, yielding only one walk.
Near No-Hitter Broken in Ninth
Magdaleno maintained a no-hitter through eight flawless frames and remained perfect through 6.1 innings. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up in the top of the ninth inning when UC Riverside’s David Whittle hit a one-out infield single to shortstop.
Following the hit, Magdaleno induced two fielder’s choices and concluded the game with a final strikeout to secure the win. The victory improved Magdaleno’s individual record to 5-4.
The performance was the first complete game effort by a Rainbow Warrior pitcher since April 22, 2023, when Randy Abshier achieved the feat.
Offensive Support and Team Standing
The Rainbow Warriors provided the only run of the game in the first inning. Mana Lau Kong hit an RBI single into shallow center field, scoring Tate Shimao to give Hawai’i a 1-0 lead.
With the win in the Big West series opener, the Rainbow Warriors improved their season record to 22-19 overall and 11-11 in the Big West Conference.
