The Global Push
Tencent Holdings, the world’s largest video gaming company by revenue, is significantly increasing its international presence. This strategic move comes as its TiMi Studio Group, the developer behind globally popular titles like Honor of Kings, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Delta Force, has reached a milestone of 100 million monthly active users outside of mainland China.
This figure, disclosed for the first time by TiMi’s global publishing director, Huang Shuo, represents a surprising achievement for the 17-year-old studio. The growth is fueling plans for a new multiplayer adventure action role-playing game (RPG), Honour of Kings: World, designed to capitalize on this expanding international audience.

Financial Performance and Market Dynamics
Video gaming remains a crucial revenue stream for Tencent, China’s most valuable tech conglomerate. The company is actively seeking to bolster its overseas gaming sales as the domestic Chinese market experiences a period of plateauing growth. Recent financial results demonstrate this strategy’s early success: international game revenue surged by 35% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the previous year, while domestic revenue increased by 17% during the same period.
This shift reflects a broader trend within the chinese gaming industry, where companies are increasingly looking outward for new opportunities and revenue sources.
Regulatory Landscape and Soft Power
Interestingly, this expansion occurs alongside a softening of Beijing’s regulatory stance on video games. While strict licensing requirements and limitations on game time for minors (three hours per week) remain in place, Chinese authorities are increasingly recognizing the potential of local games as tools of ”soft power.” the success of titles like Black Myth: Wukong has underscored this perspective, demonstrating the cultural and economic influence of Chinese-developed games on a global scale.
