Honoring Andres Bonifacio: Cebu Leaders Inspire Integrity and Service on His 161st Birthday
Cebu City Vice Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros called for public servants to emulate Andres Bonifacio’s values of integrity and justice. He led the 161st Bonifacio Day celebration at Plaza Independencia alongside other officials, including Congresswoman Rachel del Mar and City Councilor Francis Esparis.
Hontiveros noted a striking detail about Bonifacio’s statue, which seemed to challenge observers. He felt Bonifacio was reminding them of their responsibilities: “I’ve done my part… What will you do?” he reflected.
In their speeches, Hontiveros and Esparis praised Bonifacio’s humble beginnings and his role as the “Father of the Philippine Revolution.” Hontiveros emphasized that greatness comes from actions, not circumstances. He reminded the audience of Bonifacio’s dedication to the fight for freedom.
He also stressed the importance of education and empowerment, highlighting how Bonifacio used words to inspire action. Esparis pointed out current challenges, such as laziness and lack of concern for others.
Hontiveros encouraged everyone to reflect on Bonifacio’s life and values. He called for public servants to prioritize the welfare of others, work with integrity, and strive for unity. He stated that true heroism lies in selfless service and commitment to justice, urging city officials to adopt Bonifacio’s spirit to serve their communities better.
