Honoring Pfc. Harry M. Seiff: WWII POW Buried at Los Angeles National Cemetery
The remains of U.S. Army Air Forces Pfc. Harry M. Seiff were interred on November 14 at Los Angeles National Cemetery. Evans Brown Mortuary from Sun City, California, conducted the graveside services.
Seiff was from Venice, California. He served in the 20th Pursuit Squadron, 24th Pursuit Group, when Japanese forces invaded the Philippines in December 1941. He was captured with thousands of other American and Filipino soldiers, forced to endure the Bataan Death March, and interned in POW camps after U.S. forces surrendered. Seiff died as a prisoner of war on November 14, 1942, at the age of 23.
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency identified Seiff’s remains on December 18, 2023. His remains were exhumed in June 2018 from the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines.
The Past Conflict Repatriations Branch, part of the Army Casualty and Mortuary Affairs Operations Division at Fort Knox, Kentucky, helps locate family members of missing soldiers from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. After identification, the branch informs the family about the findings and the burial process, including military honors. The family of Pfc. Seiff chose not to comment.
