Honoring the Memories of Our Furry Friends: A Heartfelt Animal Memorial Service
Animal Welfare Week: Memorial Service for Dogs and Cats
Animal Welfare Week, observed from the 20th to the 26th of this month, serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of animal welfare and the need for a society where humans and animals can coexist harmoniously.
A memorial service was recently held at the Prefectural Animal Protection and Management Center in Nanjō City, attended by approximately 30 individuals from the prefecture, veterinary associations, and animal protection groups. The gathering offered incense and prayers at the memorial monument, where offerings of pet food and other items had been placed.
According to the prefecture, a total of 117 animals, comprising 13 dogs and 104 cats, were euthanized or died while in the care of the center last year. However, a significant number of animals were saved through adoption events, with 266 dogs and 159 cats finding new homes.
Takashi Morikawa, director of the Prefectural Animal Protection and Management Center, emphasized the need for promoting animal welfare ideas and disseminating knowledge on proper animal care and management. The prefecture is actively advocating for animal welfare and proper care, striving to create a society where humans and animals can coexist peacefully.
As we observe Animal Welfare Week, it is essential to acknowledge the importance of animal welfare and the role we play in promoting a harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.
