Honoring the Silent Souls: Pope Francis Leads a Day of Reflection and Remembrance for the Deceased
Pope Francis Celebrates Memorial Mass on Remembrance Day
Pope Francis visited the Laurentino Cemetery in Rome to celebrate the Memorial Mass on Remembrance Day, a tradition he last observed in 2018.
A Moment of Prayer and Reflection
On the morning of November 2, Pope Francis arrived at the Laurentino Cemetery to commemorate the deceased. Before the Mass, he stopped by the “Angel Garden” to pray in silence, with the intention of praying for those who have lost a child.
During the homily, the Pope took a moment to reflect on the deceased, bowing his head in silence. He then recited a prayer, saying: “Lord! Our earthly life is like a breath. Please teach us to count our years and grant us the wisdom of our souls, so that when we face death, we will not disappear, but will be with our loved ones on the threshold of eternal life.”
The Pope concluded the Mass by blessing everyone present and praying for the deceased, asking God to comfort those who were suffering from separation.
A Symbol of Love and Hope
Following the Mass, the Pope met with members of the group Scintille di speranza (Fire of Hope), a group of mothers who have lost their children for various reasons. They presented the Pope with a white scarf, symbolizing their children’s love and the love that brings them closer to their children through the path of love.
