Hoop Dreams in Mito: The Thrilling 34th Mayor’s Cup Mini Basketball Tournament
The 34th Mito Mayor’s Cup Mini Basketball Tournament was held.
A total of 48 teams, including 24 men’s teams and 24 women’s teams, selected from within the prefecture participated in this tournament, and fierce competition was waged over two days.
I arrived at the venue a little early to take part in the award ceremony and was able to watch the women’s final.
Even though they were elementary school students, I was overwhelmed by their speed and high level of technique, and I could see the results of my daily practice.
Congratulations to all the teams for their excellent results, including the win.
We look forward to seeing further improvements as we aim for the next level.
To the team who were unfortunately unable to perform to their full potential, I hope you will reflect on what you did wrong today and work hard towards your next match.
Basketball is becoming more and more popular in Japan right now.
Mito City is also working to create the conditions for the Ibaraki Robots to join the Premier League.
We hope to create an environment where children can learn a variety of things, such as improving their skills and motivation, by having close contact with top-level athletes.
We hope that all players will continue to play the game they love and achieve great things as leaders in the basketball world in the future.
We wish you continued success.
