When Abel was a child, a professional suggested to her grandmother, Melanie Dozier, that Abel might never be able to communicate. According to Dozier, she was advised when Abel was 6 years old to prepare for the possibility of institutionalizing her by the age of 12.

Discovery of Musical Talent

The trajectory of Abel’s life changed during an open mic event at a church. During the event, the congregation was invited to share their gifts, prompting Abel to run toward the piano before her grandmother could stop her.
