Stunt Performer Sues Kevin Costner; “Horizon 2” Accused of Safety Lapses
Updated June 25, 2025
devyn LaBella, a stunt performer, is suing Kevin Costner, alleging she faced a harrowing experience during the filming of an unscripted scene for “Horizon 2.” The lawsuit claims sexual harassment, discrimination, adn emotional distress.
The suit gained further traction with the inclusion of a two-page report from Celeste chaney, the film’s intimacy coordinator. The report, attached to an amended complaint filed June 18, details “numerous problems” during the scene’s production. Chaney noted the absence of an intimacy coordinator during filming, the lack of modesty garments for LaBella, and Costner’s unapproved, impromptu direction.
According to the lawsuit, Ella Hunt, the actor LaBella was standing in for, refused to perform the scene, which was not in the original script. LaBella then stepped in.
The suit alleges Costner directed another actor to climb on top of LaBella, unbutton his pants, and hike up her skirt.
Chaney’s report concluded that “appropriate protocols were abandoned” and stressed the importance of intimacy coordinators for vulnerable scenes. She emphasized their role in safeguarding actors, supporting the director’s vision, and protecting the production.
LaBella also included text messages in the amended complaint, one of which recounts an apology from the line producer, who allegedly said Costner “needs to be brought up to the current times.”
LaBella claims her career suffered after she spoke out, alleging she hasn’t been hired by the stunt coordinator as the May 2023 production.
Costner’s attorney,Marty Singer, denied the allegations. Singer stated labella gave a “thumbs up” after the rehearsal and was later in “good spirits.” The amended suit further accuses Singer of attempting to damage LaBella’s career by labeling her a “serial accuser.”
“Once the line is crossed, there is no real choice left to make,” LaBella said. “I spoke up immediately. And for that,I was met with silence, deflection, and efforts to discredit me. This case is not just about what happened to me. Its about a broken system that protects those in power and punishes those who speak out.”
