Snehal Antani’s Path: From IBM to AI Pen Testing Leadership
Updated May 28, 2025
Snehal Antani, co-founder of the AI pen testing company Horizon3.ai, has always been immersed in technology. Inspired by his electrical engineer father, Antani honed his skills early by repairing broken electronics. This hands-on experience fueled his academic pursuits, leading him to computer science and eventually a master’s degree.
Antani’s career spans diverse roles, including positions at IBM, GE Capital as CIO, and Splunk as CTO. In 2018, he joined the Joint Special operations Command (JSOC) as CTO, a role that ultimately led to the creation of Horizon3.ai with former JSOC colleague Anthony pillitiere. Antani leverages his varied experiences to drive innovation and address critical security challenges through AI-driven solutions for penetration testing.
Early in his career, Antani prioritized learning above all else. He recalls his time at IBM: “I used to sit in the hallway in front of my team lead’s office… I would literally sit on the floor and just stare at it, trying to make sure I understood it in detail.” This dedication to mastering distributed systems and enterprise software laid the groundwork for his future success.
Overcoming his initial fear of public speaking, Antani actively sought opportunities to improve his communication skills. he also embraced product management, despite early struggles, recognizing it as a crucial area for growth. This commitment to self-improvement propelled him to a CIO role at GE Capital in 2012, despite having no prior management experience. According to Antani, a strong technical foundation coupled with excellent communication skills have been paramount to his career.
Antani recounted a pivotal moment at IBM when a German banking system faced critical failures. Despite being a junior employee, he volunteered to help. “I replied directly to Mills and said, ‘I think I can fix this problem.Send me.'” Although initially overwhelmed, he drew upon his deep understanding of enterprise software to resolve the issue within 90 minutes.
Reflecting on his time at GE Capital, Antani observed a shift in how technology was perceived. Initially viewed as a back-office function, technology’s role in creating a competitive edge became increasingly apparent. “I believe that’s shifted dramatically, especially now when you think about AI and the advantage you can create using technology,” Antani said.
Driven by a desire to contribute after 9/11, Antani joined the Joint Special Operations Command in 2018. He aimed to accelerate innovation within the special operations community, enabling them to counter emerging threats effectively.”There’s no clearer mission than looking at human beings putting themselves in danger to help others,” he stated.
The impetus for founding Horizon3.ai stemmed from a challenge Antani and Pillitiere identified at JSOC: proactively identifying and addressing vulnerabilities. “We wanted to find a way to build an autonomous system that allows you to hack yourself as often as you wont,” Antani explained. The company’s AI-powered platform helps organizations find, fix, and verify security weaknesses, enhancing their overall security posture through autonomous penetration testing.
What’s next
Antani continues to lead Horizon3.ai, focusing on expanding the capabilities of its autonomous penetration testing platform and helping organizations proactively manage their cybersecurity risks using cutting-edge AI.
