Horrific Tackle Leaves PSG Star with Facial Injuries in Ligue 1 Thriller
monaco, France – A thrilling Ligue 1 clash between Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain ended on a sour note Sunday, overshadowed by a gruesome injury to PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. While PSG emerged victorious with a 4-2 win, teh celebratory mood was dampened by the shocking incident involving Monaco defender Wilfred Singo.
In the 17th minute, Singo, charging towards the PSG goal, made a reckless challenge on Donnarumma, his cleat connecting with the goalkeeper’s face. The impact left Donnarumma bloodied and requiring immediate medical attention.
Images of Donnarumma’s injury, showing deep lacerations near his right eye held together by stitches, quickly circulated on social media, sparking outrage and concern.
PSG confirmed in a statement that Donnarumma would return to Paris for further medical evaluation and would require several days of rest.
“Gianluigi Donnarumma suffered facial injuries with multiple lacerations this evening,” the club said. “He will undergo further medical examinations tomorrow and will need to rest for several days.”
The incident sparked controversy as Singo, already on a yellow card, escaped further punishment for the dangerous tackle. referee Francois Letexier, who officiated the Euro 2020 final, failed to issue a red card, and the VAR system did not intervene.
Many fans and pundits expressed disbelief at the lack of disciplinary action, arguing that singo’s challenge could have resulted in a far more serious injury.
