Landover, MD – The 125th Army-Navy Game, presented by USAA and featuring The American Legion as an associate sponsor, saw Navy reclaim the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy with a decisive 31-13 victory over the 22nd-ranked Black Knights.
Army entered the game boasting the nation’s top rushing offense and a formidable defense, but Navy’s stifling defense and the electrifying performance of junior quarterback Blake Horvath proved too much to overcome.
Horvath, making his first-ever start against Army, was unstoppable. He rushed for 204 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries, while also completing 4 of 9 passes for 107 yards and two more scores.
“Blake Horvath is a special young man and one of the toughest kids that I know,” said Navy coach Jeff Newberry.”He’s battled through some really challenging injuries this year, and we weren’t sure if he was going to be able to play in this game. I thoght he played extremely well today. He makes it go. He makes the engine go without a doubt.”
Navy’s defense suffocated Army’s vaunted rushing attack, holding the Black Knights to just 113 yards on 2.9 yards per carry. Quarterback Bryson Daily, who entered the game with over 1,400 rushing yards, was limited to 52 yards on 19 carries and was intercepted three times.
“We talked about playing fast and free without fear of failure,” Newberry said. “Importance of execution over emotion. I thought we did that for the most part today, and I thought we did it in a convincing way over a really good football team.”
A key moment came in the fourth quarter when Navy executed a successful fake punt, extending a drive that culminated in a touchdown and effectively sealing the victory.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Navy in the rivalry and secured the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy for the Midshipmen.

I’m so proud of everybody. We played hard today, and we wanted it more.”

Horvath capped off the drive with his second rushing touchdown of the game, putting Navy firmly in control. The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for Army coach Jeff Monken.
“It’s hard to lose that game,” Monken said. “that one hurts a lot, especially when the trophy’s on the line and we’ve got a chance to keep that trophy at west Point. We didn’t do it.
“It’s been a good season. When you lose this game there’s nothing great, tremendous, outstanding or stupendous about it. It frankly makes the season a bit of a disappointment. That’s just the truth of this game.”
