The show focuses on the Targaryen royal family’s golden age, set over a hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones. The central conflict involves the succession of King Viserys I, pitting his daughter Rhaenyra against his eldest son Aegon, Collider reports.

Structural and Character Alterations from Fire and Blood

The adaptation has introduced several deviations from the original text to alter character arcs or emotional impact. Collider identifies several specific changes, including the expanded role of Ser Harrold Westerling, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.

In the book, Westerling dies of old age and is succeeded by Ser Criston Cole.
