HOUSTON (AP) — A Harris County security officer was injured in a shooting Monday near the Family Law Center in downtown houston. Authorities report that the incident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the criminal justice complex, also left the alleged shooter wounded and hospitalized.

Harris County Sheriff Ed González confirmed the shooting and identified the injured officer as Sheila Jones. Jones was airlifted to hermann Memorial medical Center for treatment.
According to initial police reports, Jones, a security guard at the Family Law Center, intervened in a violent altercation. Upon realizing the suspect was armed, officers pursued him. The suspect then allegedly opened fire, wounding Jones.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, upon learning of the shooting after landing in Denver for a work trip, commented on the incident.”She ran bravely towards the line of fire and helped neutralize the suspect before being shot,” Hidalgo wrote on social media.
“Officer Jones is particularly special to our Harris county family, as many of our center employees see her daily as she patrols the parking area. She is universally beloved.”
The Houston Police Department is leading the investigation into the Monday shooting.
