The inaugural Fleet Week Houston is scheduled to begin on April 15, 2026, marking the first time a Texas city has hosted the event. The week-long celebration will bring more than 1,000 active-duty Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen to the city for a series of public events, ship tours, and community outreach experiences.
The event, which runs from April 15 through April 22, 2026, is being held in collaboration with the City of Houston, the Port of Houston, and the Houston First Corporation. According to official event details, Fleet Week Houston is part of America 250, the official nationwide celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Participating Military Vessels
The U.S. Navy and the City of Houston announced the lineup of participating ships on March 16, 2026. The fleet includes a variety of vessels designed for different maritime missions, offering the public an opportunity to learn about national defense and maritime security.
- USS Kearsarge (LHD-3): A Wasp-class amphibious assault ship. These vessels are designed for multi-purpose operations, including the transport of troops and the provision of aircraft support.
- USS Minneapolis-St. Paul (LCS-21): A Freedom-class littoral combat ship. This class of ship is optimized for high speed and agility in near-shore environments.
- USS Cooperstown (LCS-23): Also a Freedom-class littoral combat ship, sharing the same advanced capabilities for coastal missions as the USS Minneapolis-St. Paul.
- USCGC Edgar Culbertson (WPC-1137): A Sentinel-class fast response cutter from the U.S. Coast Guard. These cutters are equipped for law enforcement, port security, and search and rescue missions.
Schedule of Events and Locations
The festivities will be spread across the greater Houston area, with activities taking place in Downtown Houston, Galveston, and surrounding regions. The event officially kicks off on April 15, 2026, with the Parade of Ships. This opening event will allow spectators at Seawolf Park in Galveston to watch the military vessels sail into the Houston Ship Channel.
Throughout the week, the city will host a variety of activities, including educational demonstrations, community outreach events, and interactions between the public and service members. The event concludes on April 22, 2026.
Public Access and Visitation Guidelines
Fleet Week Houston is free to the public. While the event is open to all, specific guidelines have been established for those wishing to tour the active-duty ships. According to the official visitor guide, no reservations are required to tour the ships; however, visitors must join a queue to be assigned a specific tour time.

Organizers have encouraged groups to attend on weekdays to avoid long lines and larger crowds. While prior authorization is not required for group visits, ticketing and further ship tour information are expected to be released in the coming days.
Volunteer opportunities are also being made available for members of the greater Houston community. Applications for volunteers are open to individuals aged 16 and older.
Regional Significance
The introduction of Fleet Week to Houston is intended to highlight the city’s role as a global port city and strengthen the connection between the local community and the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Similar events have historically been held in coastal cities such as Miami, San Diego, and New York.
By bringing these vessels to the Port of Houston, the event provides a unique opportunity for residents to engage with the men and women who serve at sea and to see the technology used in modern maritime operations.
