Officers responded to the scene around 4 a.m. On April 5 after receiving a call from a nearby resident. Upon arrival, police discovered a Hispanic man in his 20s deceased outside a home near the intersection of Wheatley and Marcolin Streets in the Acres Homes area.
A homeowner reported to investigators that he heard gunfire, which was followed immediately by the sound of a crash. After going outside to investigate the noise, the homeowner discovered the victim in the front yard.
Investigation Details
Initial evidence at the scene suggests the man died from a gunshot wound. Investigators recovered two shell casings near the body, although the medical examiner is still working to officially confirm the cause of death.
Police believe the shooting took place on Wheatley Street. While We find currently no known witnesses to the incident, investigators noted the presence of a white car near the scene. Police stated that there were no bullet holes found on the vehicle, but they believe the car may be connected to the crash reported by the homeowner.
The HPD Homicide Division is leading the investigation. As of April 5, 2026, the identity of the victim has not been released, and no suspect description is available.
