Houthi Rebels Claim Attack on US Aircraft Carrier in Red Sea

Yemen-based Houthi rebels claim to have targeted the USS Harry S. Truman,a US aircraft carrier,in the northern Red Sea with missiles and drones. The group also alleges attacks on targets in central and southern Israel.In a video statement released Wednesday, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the attacks were carried out while US forces were preparing for a large-scale airstrike against Yemen.
“Our forces launched a special operation targeting the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman with two cruise missiles and four drones in the northern Red Sea,” Saree stated. He claimed the Houthi attacks “thwarted the American aggression.”
This is not the first time the Houthi rebels have claimed to target the USS Harry S. Truman. On December 31st, they made similar claims, accusing the US carrier of preparing for airstrikes against yemen.
Saree also announced a series of attacks against Israeli targets, stating that four military operations were carried out using missiles and combat drones. He claimed the first operation targeted a military site in Jaffa (Tel Aviv) with two drones, while the second hit a key target in Ashkelon with a single drone.
The US Navy has not yet commented on the Houthi claims.
Escalating Tensions in the Middle East
The Houthi claims come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. The group, which controls much of northern Yemen, has been locked in a civil war with the Yemeni government since 2014. The US has provided support to the Yemeni government, including airstrikes against Houthi targets.The Houthis have previously targeted Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, both of which are part of a coalition fighting against the rebels in Yemen.The alleged attacks on the USS Harry S.Truman and Israeli targets, if confirmed, could significantly escalate the conflict and draw the US and Israel more directly into the war in Yemen.
