Jacob Abel participated in a test for Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) at Texas Motor Speedway on November 13. Abel, who finished as the runner-up in the INDY NXT series in 2024, saw this test as a vital chance to showcase his skills. CGR currently has a lineup of three established drivers: Scott Dixon, Alex Palou, and Kyffin Simpson.

Abel expressed excitement and a sense of pressure about driving for such a prestigious team. He noted the importance of delivering valuable feedback to CGR engineers during the test. Abel recognized the preparation CGR provides its drivers, allowing them to be ready for testing sessions. He emphasized that he took full advantage of the resources available to him, which helped him acclimate quickly to the track.

The young driver, 23, showed promise, having tested an INDYCAR series car previously at Sebring International Raceway. He attributed his rapid learning curve to the competitive nature of the INDY NXT series and his own accomplishments within it. Over three seasons, Abel improved his standings, moving from eighth to fifth to third in the championship points.

Abel’s experience as a three-year team leader at Abel Motorsports, which his father owns, also contributed to his readiness. This role allowed him to develop skills in car setup and handling. He turned about 250 laps during the test, aiming to provide valuable insights to the team.

Following the test, Abel felt motivated to secure a full-time seat in the INDYCAR series for the next season. He believed his performance and professionalism could earn him future opportunities. Abel stated that experiencing INDYCAR serves as a strong incentive for him to work hard and pursue his goals.
