Taylor Fritz lost to Jannik Sinner at the ATP Finals for the fourth time in a row. Sinner defeated Fritz 6-4, 6-4 twice in the tournament, winning the championship for the first time.

Fritz faced Sinner three times in 2024 and lost each match without winning a set. He experienced a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 defeat at the US Open and lost 6-4, 6-4 twice at the ATP Finals.

Fritz has not taken a set off Sinner since a match at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters. Andrea Petkovic, a former top 10 player, suggests that Fritz must modify his approach. She stated, “I think he plays too much through the court. I don’t think he goes for angles at all.”

Petkovic continued, “To beat Jannik Sinner, Fritz needs to get to the angles. His shots through the court do not challenge Sinner, who moves well and remains balanced. Sinner consistently capitalizes on mistakes, winning points before Fritz can.”

Despite losing at the ATP Finals, Fritz had a strong season. He claimed two titles and reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open.

His performance improved his ranking to a career-high of number four, sitting just under 2000 points behind Carlos Alcaraz at number three.
