The San Diego California Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host a public open house from June 18 to July 11, 2026. This event marks the first time in more than 33 years that the temple has opened its doors to the general public, following nearly three years of extensive renovations to the facility.
The open house is designed to allow members of the community, members of the Church, and other interested visitors to tour the interior of the sacred building and explore the surrounding grounds. Once the temple is formally rededicated, entrance will be reserved exclusively for members of the Church.
The public tours will be conducted Monday through Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. To 8:00 p.m. The temple will be closed to visitors on Sundays throughout the duration of the open house.
Admission to the open house is free, although the Church recommends that visitors make reservations in advance due to limited parking availability at the site.
Each tour is a guided walking experience lasting approximately 45 minutes. The visit begins with a brief introductory video, followed by a walk-through of the temple’s interior. Representatives of the Church will be available at the conclusion of the tour to answer questions from visitors.
Guests will have the opportunity to visit several specialized areas within the temple, including the celestial room, sealing rooms, instruction rooms, and the baptistry. The interior features newly refreshed designs and stained-glass details intended to create an atmosphere of peace and reverence.
The temple is an architectural landmark in San Diego, characterized by white spires and located in the La Jolla area. The building spans 72,000 square feet and stands 169 feet tall. It is situated on 7.2 acres of maintained grounds, which remain open to the public year-round.
The temple is located at 7474 Charmant Dr, San Diego, CA 92122. To manage the expected volume of visitors, the Church has established specific parking and transportation protocols.
While limited parking is available on-site and in nearby walkable lots, additional off-site parking is provided at 4655 Executive Drive, San Diego, CA, with an entrance off Judicial Drive. Shuttle services will operate from this off-site location to the temple from 9:00 a.m. To 7:30 p.m. To reduce traffic congestion, the Church asks guests to carpool with four or more people per vehicle if possible.
Visitors are welcome to attend the open house in their own clothing, though the Church suggests business casual attire and comfortable shoes, as the tour requires walking. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and restrooms and drinking fountains are available on-site for use before and after the tours.
The public open house is part of a larger schedule of events leading to the temple’s formal rededication. A media day is scheduled for June 15, 2026, followed by invited guest tours on June 16 and June 17, 2026.
The process will conclude with a rededication ceremony on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., with a rebroadcast of the event taking place at 2:00 p.m.
