Unexpected Sales Success
The Mate XT Ultimate, the first of its kind, was initially met with skepticism due to its high cost. Some analysts speculated the device would remain a “showcase” product, demonstrating Huawei’s technological capabilities rather than achieving important sales. However, recent reports from China indicate a surprisingly strong market response.
Contextualizing the Numbers
While 400,000 units may not rival the sales figures of conventional smartphones or even folding devices, the number is noteworthy considering several factors. The Mate XT Ultimate is a first-generation product in a novel format, carries a premium price, and faces the challenge of lacking official Google Services, which can deter potential customers.
Future of Foldable Technology
The potential of the two-hinge design is further validated by Samsung’s patents in the area, and the fact that other manufacturers are reportedly developing similar devices.Huawei, facing ongoing sanctions, appears to be strategically focusing on unique and innovative formats.
