Huawei has launched the Sound X5 smart speaker, featuring an eight-unit, three-way audio system with a 126 mm woofer and optional 18K gold-plated passive radiators. The device was announced alongside the Pura 90 series and WATCH FIT 5 series as part of Huawei’s expanding ecosystem of connected products.

The Sound X5 uses a 126 mm woofer, four 48 mm midrange drivers, a 35 mm tweeter, and two passive radiators to deliver a total output of 160 watts. This includes 60 watts for the woofer, 20 watts each for the four midrange drivers, and 20 watts for the tweeter. Huawei claims the speaker can produce bass down to 36Hz, offering deeper low-end performance compared to its predecessor, the Sound X4.

The speaker runs on an updated HarmonyOS AI model, enabling more natural voice command recognition and support for continuous conversations. This allows users to interact with the device using less rigid phrasing. Connectivity is centered around Huawei’s HarmonyOS Smart Connect, which facilitates audio sharing and basic smart home control with other compatible devices.

Additional features include gesture controls, a sleep mode, and RGB lighting effects that react to audio playback. The lighting is housed within a partially transparent cylindrical design, which Huawei says enhances the visual experience during music playback. The Sound X5 maintains the cylindrical form factor of the Sound X4 but introduces a more prominent visual element through dynamic lighting.

The Sound X5 is available in black, white, and gold finishes. The black and white models start at 2,199 yuan, while the gold version is priced at 2,499 yuan due to the 18K gold plating on the passive radiators. Huawei positions the gold variant as a premium design option that combines high-end audio with luxury aesthetics.

Compared to the Sound X4, which featured a 50W 120.7mm woofer, four 38.1mm 5W full-range speakers, a 31.8mm 3W tweeter, and two passive radiators, the Sound X5 represents a significant upgrade in both driver size and power distribution. The new model increases woofer size by over 5mm and boosts total output power from approximately 50W to 160W.

Huawei emphasizes that the Sound X5 is designed not only as an audio device but also as a design statement for the smart home. The combination of high-resolution audio capabilities, transparent housing with RGB lighting, and optional precious metal finishes targets users who prioritize both sound quality and visual integration in their living spaces.
