Hugh Jackman, dressed in black, took the Hollywood Bowl stage Saturday night, launching into Neil Diamond’s “Crunchy Granola Suite,” setting the tone for an evening of showmanship. Jackman’s Hollywood Bowl concert paid homage to diamond, Peter Allen, and P.T. Barnum, figures who have inspired his career.
Jackman, 56, channeled Diamond’s “Hot August night” energy, later performing a medley of Peter allen tunes, a role he embodied in Broadway’s “The Boy From Oz.” He also revisited P.T. Barnum, the character he played in “The Greatest Showman,” a film whose soundtrack achieved quadruple-platinum status. Jackman told the crowd that if they hadn’t seen “The Greatest Showman,” they might think he was super-confident.
The success of “The Greatest Showman” highlights the rarity of Jackman’s theatrical style in contemporary pop music. While women have largely dominated the “theatre-kid” moment, jackman’s performance stands out, especially considering his fame as Wolverine. Before Jackman, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra performed selections from John Ottman’s score for “X2: X-Men United,” according to the Los Angeles times.
While Benson Boone’s rise suggests a potential continuation of this tradition, Jackman’s energetic 90-minute show indicated he’s not ready to pass the torch. Along with ”Greatest Showman” numbers and a Frank Sinatra tribute, jackman performed “Sweet caroline” and songs from “Les Misérables,” the latter earning him an Oscar nomination. He is only an Oscar away from achieving EGOT status.

Jackman also performed “You Will Be Found” from “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Ya Got Trouble” from “The Music Man,” interacting with the audience. He joked about the temperature and seeing friends in the crowd.the show included a comedic rendition of John Denver’s “Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” reimagined as “Aussie boy,” with jokes about Australia and political jabs.
The emotional high point was “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest showman,” featuring the Youth Orchestra Los angeles. Despite the song’s clichés,jackman’s sincere delivery resonated with the audience. Jackman’s Hollywood Bowl performance was a vibrant display of his talent and showmanship.
What’s next
Jackman is reportedly working on a film where he plays a Neil Diamond impersonator, promising more musical performances in the future.
