AM General is showcasing an upgraded version of its MIMIC-V military pickup truck at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting, featuring integration with drone technology and advanced sensor capabilities. The enhancements aim to provide ground teams with a mobile platform for reconnaissance, target designation, and strike missions, particularly in challenging environments.
Drone Integration for enhanced Capabilities
The AUSA display highlights two complementary drone packages integrated with the pickup truck. First, the vehicle is equipped to operate with XTEND Defense’s human-guided autonomous drone systems, enabling small units to launch, monitor, and recover drones directly from the vehicle without dismounting.XTEND Defense specializes in developing these types of drone systems for military and security applications. Second, AM General collaborated with SPEAR UAV to integrate the Viper 300 system, designed for precision strikes and beyond line-of-sight operations. This combination aims to provide a single, mobile node capable of supporting a range of tasks while on the move.
Improved Situational Awareness with SWIR Technology
beyond drone integration, the MIMIC-V has been upgraded with a sensor package featuring TriEye’s CMOS-based Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) technology. TriEye focuses on developing SWIR sensors that enhance imaging performance in adverse conditions. This technology is designed to maintain imaging clarity in environments obscured by dust, smoke, haze, and low light, offering a meaningful advantage in challenging operational scenarios.
According to AM General, the TriEye integration provides “unprecedented situational awareness,” possibly giving troops a critical edge across the spectrum of military operations. The company emphasizes that the overall concept is tailored for units requiring a small footprint and rapid response times.
Operational Versatility and Agility
AM general positions these new capabilities as delivering “unmatched operational flexibility and agility” for special operations forces and light infantry units operating in complex environments. The integration of drones and advanced sensors transforms the MIMIC-V into a versatile platform capable of adapting to a wide range of mission requirements. This focus on adaptability is increasingly important in modern warfare, where units often face unpredictable and dynamic situations.
