Hunter Injured in Lucca Province Shooting, Undergoes Emergency Surgery

A 50-year-old hunter sustained abdominal gunshot wounds during a wild boar hunt in the Croce di Brancoli area of Lucca province, Italy, on Sunday, December 7, 2025. Emergency services received a call around 10:30 AM local time.
Arduous Rescue Operation
The hunter’s location presented important challenges for rescuers, requiring a complex operation involving an air ambulance and a winch to reach the injured man. The terrain was described as arduous and inaccessible. Paramedics stabilized the hunter at the scene before transporting him to Cisanello Hospital in Pisa.
Emergency Treatment and Examination
Upon arrival at Cisanello Hospital, the hunter underwent emergency surgery and was admitted in “code red” condition, indicating the severity of his injuries. Hospital officials confirmed his life was not in danger following the procedure.
Law enforcement, including both the Carabinieri and the Polizia, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Initial reports suggest the incident may have been accidental, potentially stemming from a fall.
Multi-Agency Response
Along with the 118 emergency medical personnel and the air ambulance crew, firefighters and members of the Alpine Rescue team participated in the rescue effort. Authorities are working to reconstruct the full sequence of events leading to the hunting accident.
