Governor Evelyn Salgado announced that the armed forces were using relief efforts for the population and that they would continue throughout the day. In the southern part of the city centre, on Thursday morning the water level of the river, which runs through the capital for nine kilometers from north to south, was already at its highest level and in many places threatened with flooding.
Since noon, the Balsas River, overwhelmed by the rain of Hurricane “John”, overflowed its banks and caused flooding in at least 20 homes in the municipalities of San Miguel Totolapan, Pungarabato and Coyuca de Catalán.
The highway that goes from Coyuca de Catalán to Ajuchitlán del Progreso has been blocked by the flooding of the Sergio River that crosses it.

Also in Amuco the main road is closed by the river that runs from the Sierra and flooded towns like San Juan Chámacua.
Other small rivers in Ajuchitlán, which come down from the Sierra, also cross the highway, so there is no communication between about 14 communities that are on that route.
In Ciudad Altamirano they hope that, due to the growth of the rivers and streams, the Balsas River will grow even more and flood neighborhoods such as Tierra Blanca and La Estación. Authorities said the shelters have already been activated.

Acapulco Floods: Evacuations Continue in Affected Areas

Evacuations are ongoing in Acapulco, Guerrero, as heavy rainfall caused by Hurricane “John” continues to affect the area.
The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) clinic in Llano Largo is completely flooded on the first level, with workers and patients trapped inside.
According to social media reports, the clinic’s staff and patients are being evacuated and transferred to other clinics by Civil Defense and National Guard personnel.

The general director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo Aburto, confirmed the situation on his social networks and said that the sick and the staff are already being evacuated and transferred to other clinics.
Likewise, he ensured that the Vicente Guerrero hospital and the other clinics operated normally, despite the weather.
