Huskies Secure 84-64 Victory Over Rockford; Face Rice Next

HCU Huskies Defeat Rockford University 84-64
HOUSTON – Houston Christian University (HCU) won against Rockford University with a score of 84-64 on Saturday at Sharp Gym. The Huskies secured the win by narrowing a close five-point game to a significant victory.
The game started strong for HCU. Julian Mackey hit a three-pointer, giving the Huskies a lead of 15-6 early on. Rockford quickly responded with a 9-2 run, cutting the lead to 17-15. The teams traded points, with Micah Swanson bringing Rockford to within one at 31-30. However, baskets from Demari Williams, Trent Johnson, and Elijah Brooks brought HCU ahead again, finishing the first half at 44-36.
In the second half, Rockford attempted to close the gap, pulling within three points at 48-45. HCU then took control. A three-pointer from Porter Bazil sparked a 12-4 run, with Brooks contributing seven points. HCU’s lead extended to 22 points in the final minutes.
Elijah Brooks led the Huskies with 21 points, shooting 6-9 from the field and 9-10 from the free-throw line. Brooks also had six rebounds and three assists. Bryson Dawkins matched his career-high with 18 points and added five rebounds. Peyton Rogers had a career-best with three three-pointers and scored 13 points.
Demari Williams scored nine points, while Julian Mackey added eight points and a career-high six assists. Trent Johnson contributed seven points and six rebounds. Micah Swanson led Rockford with 20 points.
With this victory, HCU improves to 2-2 this season. The Huskies will face Rice University next, on November 22, 2024, at 7 PM at Sharp Gym.
