I-25 Traffic Enforcement: CO Agencies Target Safety After 102 Crashes
Traffic Enforcement Intensifies on I-25 in South Denver
DENVER — A coordinated traffic enforcement operation is underway on Interstate 25 in south Denver, as five Colorado law enforcement agencies work to reduce dangerous driving behaviors and improve safety. The operation, launched on Wednesday, , will focus on violations such as lane infractions and excessive speed.
Participating agencies include the Colorado State Patrol, Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Greenwood Village Police Department, and Lone Tree Police Department. The initiative comes after a concerning number of serious incidents on the highway last year.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, troopers responded to 102 injury and fatal crashes on I-25 within Arapahoe and Douglas counties in the past year. These crashes tragically resulted in three deaths and left dozens injured. The increased enforcement is a direct response to these statistics and a commitment to preventing future tragedies.
The focus on lane violations and unsafe speeds reflects common factors contributing to accidents on the busy interstate. Authorities hope that a visible presence and consistent enforcement will deter risky driving habits.
In addition to the enforcement operation, officials are reminding drivers of the proper procedures when encountering emergency vehicles or vehicles with hazard lights activated. Drivers are advised to move over at least one lane away from the stopped vehicle, if it is safe to do so. If a lane change is not possible, drivers should slow down to a safe speed.
This coordinated effort underscores the commitment of Colorado law enforcement to prioritize safety on I-25 and reduce the number of preventable crashes. The operation aims to create a safer driving environment for all who use the highway.
