The overturned tractor trailer, a massive blue vehicle, crushed the front of a white sedan. Photos from the scene show the car wedged between the tractor and the trailer, which lay on its side.
Four people were injured in the crash. Pazos said three occupants of the car and the truck driver were transported to a local hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The Maryland State Highway governance reported that all northbound lanes of I-270 were initially closed at Exit 22, leading to significant traffic congestion. All lanes have as reopened.
The Maryland State police are investigating the incident. It remains unclear what caused the truck to overturn, and authorities are examining the potential role of rainy, wet road conditions in the collision.
