A crash on Interstate 5 northbound in South Portland significantly impacted afternoon traffic on Friday, April 25, 2026, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation and the Portland Police Bureau.
The incident was reported to ODOT at 3:32 p.m., with all lanes of I-5 North closed at Southwest Iowa Street, between the Southwest Terwilliger Boulevard and South Corbett Avenue exits. One southbound lane was also temporarily impacted during the initial response.
ODOT began opening the freeway around 5:20 p.m., and by 5:30 p.m., the agency confirmed that the road had reopened, though traffic delays persisted into the evening. All lanes were soon open in both directions.
The Portland Police Bureau described the crash as a “significant crash” involving a motorcyclist and a driver. The motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Their condition was unknown at the time of reporting, and no arrests have been made.
ODOT’s traffic cameras showed a fire truck and at least one ambulance at the scene. Officials urged drivers in the area to slow down and watch for emergency responders.
The crash caused major delays during the afternoon commute, with traffic backed up as of 5:26 p.m. Despite lanes reopening. ODOT warned that impacts could continue through the evening.
