The Toronto international Film Festival (TIFF) will open its 50th edition with the world premiere of “John Candy: I Like Me,” a documentary directed by Colin Hanks. The film, a heartfelt tribute to the Canadian comedy icon john Candy, will be the Opening Night Gala presentation on Sept. 4 at Roy Thomson Hall.
Cameron Bailey, CEO of TIFF, said the festival is excited to share the film, packed with Hollywood stars, at the premiere. He added that the film is the perfect way to kick off TIFF’s 50th edition.
The John Candy documentary, an Amazon MGM Studios title, will be available on Prime Video in the fall. It promises an intimate look at Candy’s life, both on and off-screen, featuring home videos, family access, and recollections from collaborators.The film aims to paint a picture of Candy as a son, husband, father, and professional who brought joy while battling personal struggles.
Hanks and producer Ryan Reynolds said that Candy was not just a great actor but an even better person. They added that they are honored to bring the real John Candy to audiences, starting in Toronto.
