“I think this qualification is a pleasure for all Romanians”

FCSB dramatically qualified for the main stage of the Europa League after defeating Austrian side LASK Linz 1-0 (0-0) on Thursday night. Marcel Ciolacu, the Prime Minister of Romania, made statements after attending the match at the Ghencea stadium.

“Victory is sweeter in the last minute”, said Marcel Ciolacu.

The Prime Minister watched the game in the VIP box, along with Sorin Grindeanu, the Minister of Transport. Marcel Ciolacu was optimistic before the FCSB match, stating that a 2-0 scoreline would be ideal for Gigi Becali’s team.

“2-0 would be encouraging tonight. I hope we don’t concede a goal, so we don’t have to regroup,” said the prime minister tonight.

The social-democratic leader admitted that he has never been to the new stadium in Ghencea, noting that he goes to the National Arena often and that he has invitations from several clubs, including Rapid.

FCSB qualified for the main stage of the Europa League on Thursday night after a 1-0 in the second leg of the play-offs with LASK. In the round, the score had been 1-1. Thus, the red blues qualified after a 7-year break, being the only Romanian team left in the European cups, and they are the only team, after Cluj from CFR failed to qualify in the Conference League.

The captain Darius Olaru scored the only goal of the game, in the 90th and 3rd minute, 2 minutes before the end.

FCSB will play 8 matches against 8 different teams in the main phase of the Europa League. Four of them will be at home, another four away. The team sponsored by Gigi Becali will find out their opponents on Friday, August 30.
