IBT Group is advancing the development of a portfolio of hospital projects in northern Peru, representing a planned investment exceeding US$ 500 million. The initiative focuses on the creation of specialized hospitals for EsSalud in the cities of Piura and Chimbote.
The projects were awarded to IBT Health LLC by the Agency for the Promotion of Private Investment (PROINVERSIÓN) on June 28, 2023. Once completed, these specialized facilities are expected to benefit more than 1.6 million insured individuals residing in Piura, Tumbes and Chimbote within the Áncash region.
The expansion into northern Peru builds upon IBT Group’s existing operational footprint in the country, where the company has operated for nearly 20 years.
Since 2014, IBT Group has managed two major healthcare complexes under a Public-Private Partnership (APP) model: the Alberto Leonardo Barton Thompson Hospital Complex in Callao and the Guillermo Kaelin de la Fuente Hospital Complex in Villa María del Triunfo.
These two facilities are classified as Level III hospitals, which are defined as high-complexity establishments with specialized resolution capacity. The APP agreement for these complexes covers the construction, equipping, and operation of the facilities over a 30-year period.
Construction of the Barton and Kaelin complexes began in April 2012, and both centers were officially inaugurated in April 2014.
For more than a decade, IBT Group has been responsible for the clinical management of these hospitals, a role referred to as “Bata Blanca” (White Coat) management.
The “Bata Blanca” model distinguishes the clinical and medical administration of the hospitals from other operational aspects of the facility. By managing the clinical side, IBT Group oversees the delivery of healthcare services and specialized medical care within the high-complexity framework of the Level III designations.
The current acceleration of projects in Piura and Chimbote signifies a strategic expansion of this high-complexity care model to the northern regions of Peru, utilizing the same APP framework that has governed the company’s operations in Callao and Villa María del Triunfo since the early 2010s.
