The International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit is investigating allegations of corruption involving Cricket Canada, including a specific focus on Canada’s loss to New Zealand in the men’s T20 World Cup held in India and Sri Lanka.

The investigation stems from a documentary titled ‘Corruption, Crime and Cricket’ produced by the fifth estate and aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) on Friday, April 17, 2026. The 43-minute film made wide-ranging accusations of corruption and poor governance against Canada Cricket.

According to the documentary and subsequent reports, suspicion is focused on the fifth over bowled by Canada’s captain Dilpreet Bajwa during New Zealand’s chase in the Chennai match. Bajwa, who was appointed captain three weeks before the tournament began, started the over with a no-ball, followed by a wide, and ended up conceding 15 runs in the over.

Canada scored 173 for four wickets in their 20 overs, while New Zealand replied with 176 for two wickets in 15.1 overs, winning the match by eight wickets.

The ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit has confirmed awareness of the CBC programme. Andrew Ephgrave, interim general manager of the ICC’s Integrity Unit, stated in a release: “The ACU (anti-corruption unit) is aware of the programme broadcast by CBC.”

ESPNcricinfo understands that the ACU has two active investigations spanning elements of Cricket Canada and allegations of breaches of the ICC’s anti-corruption code at both international and domestic levels.

The allegations emerged from the documentary which accused Canada Cricket of corruption and governance issues, with the World Cup match against New Zealand being a specific point of scrutiny.
