ICC Issues Arrest Warrant for Israeli PM Netanyahu and Former Defense Minister Gallant for War Crimes
ICC Issues Arrest Warrants for Israeli Leaders
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. This action follows allegations of war crimes during the Israeli military’s actions against Palestine.
The ICC found “reasonable grounds” to hold Netanyahu responsible for war crimes in Gaza. The warrants state that both Netanyahu and Gallant are accused of committing crimes against humanity and war crimes starting from October 8, 2023, through May 20, 2024, the date when the request for the arrest warrants was submitted.
The court specifically highlighted that Netanyahu is implicated in using starvation as a method of warfare. In May, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan filed for these arrest warrants based on evidence indicating that both leaders are responsible for crimes against humanity in Gaza.
After Khan’s filing, a panel of three judges from Romania, Benin, and Mexico will review the request in the pre-trial chamber of the ICC.
