Federal agents executed an operation Wednesday at the Mesa Vista Apartments on linda Vista Road, according to San Diego police. The agents’ role prompted a response from local law enforcement.
Cellphone video captured multiple agents and unmarked vehicles at the scene. A resident told NBC 7 that the sudden appearance of tactical gear led them to believe Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was present. The resident expressed concern for their neighbors, describing them as hardworking individuals who should not be targeted.
The San Diego police Department (SDPD) confirmed they were asked by Homeland Security to provide support and maintain safety during the operation. However, the SDPD emphasized its limited role.
“The San Diego Police Department has repeatedly stated that it does not participate in Immigration enforcement and is strictly prohibited from doing so, per state law (SB 54),” the SDPD said in a statement.
It remains unclear if any individuals were detained during the operation. As of Thursday, ICE has not responded to requests for comment.
