Iowa Ag Department Relocates, Time Capsule Opened
The iowa department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is preparing for a change in address. A reception was held Thursday as the department readies to move from the Henry A. Wallace State Office Building, located at 502 E. Ninth St.,Des Moines.
The Wallace building, known for its gold-tinted reflective windows, has faced structural and maintenance challenges since its construction in the late 1970s. The building’s demolition is planned.
The department, the last tenant in the Wallace Building, will relocate to the Hoover Building at 1305 E. Walnut St. at the start of July.The move marks a new chapter for the department and its role in Iowa agriculture.
During the reception, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig opened a time capsule sealed in October 2000 by then-Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge.The capsule contained historic artifacts, materials, and photos collected during the packing process, all of which where on display.
