Dr. mimi Syed, an ER physician, says that during a volunteer trip to Gaza in the summer of 2024, she observed a disturbing pattern: numerous children treated for gunshot wounds. Syed reported treating at least 18 children under 12 years old with gunshot wounds to the head or chest in a single month.
Other physicians working in Gaza have reported similar cases, supporting the claim that members of the Israeli military may be deliberately targeting children. These doctors are now appealing to U.S.and international policymakers to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The allegations and appeals are featured in this week’s “Reveal,” a program produced in partnership with Al Jazeera’s “Fault Lines.” The program follows Syed’s journey from the Gaza Strip to Congress and the United Nations.
“They were children under the age of 12. That’s somthing I saw every single day, multiple times a day, for the whole four weeks that I was there,” Dr. Mimi Syed, ER Physician said.
