The Tragedy Unfolds: Sahar Baruch’s Kidnapping and Death
Maj. Gen. (res.) Yossi Bachar, currently serving as deputy commander of the IDF Southern Command in the reserves, revealed a deeply personal connection to the ongoing conflict. He is the uncle of Sahar Baruch, who was recently returned to Israel, tragically confirming his death after being held captive by Hamas.
Bachar, 61, is a highly decorated and experienced IDF officer. His distinguished career includes command positions in the IDF Ground Forces Command, the Gaza Division, the Galilee Formation, the Paratroopers Brigade, the 101st Battalion, the Maglan Unit, and the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit.
The tragedy is compounded by the loss of Bachar’s mother, Geula, who was murdered during the Hamas terrorist attack on kibbutz Be’eri on October 7th.
Sahar and Idan Baruch: A Family Devastated
Sahar Baruch, 25, was kidnapped from his home in Be’eri during the October 7th attack and taken to Gaza. He was afterward murdered while in captivity.
