IDF Soldiers Can Now Get Medications Without Physical Prescriptions
IDF Soldiers Can Now Fill Prescriptions at Super-Pharm with Digital IDs
Military pharmacies are no longer the only option for active duty and reserve soldiers needing medication.
In a move to streamline healthcare access, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and Medical Corps announced on Sunday that soldiers can now retrieve prescriptions from Super-Pharm locations using digital prescriptions and their IDF identification cards.
this new policy eliminates the need for soldiers to travel to military pharmacies or specific bases to obtain their medications.
How it Works:
After a doctor issues a prescription, it will be available in the ‘MediTik’ application within a couple of hours. This app is directly connected to the Super-Pharm network, allowing soldiers to easily access their medications.
Exceptions Apply:
While this new system offers convenience and accessibility, there are a few exceptions.Medications classified as attention-deficit drugs and narcotics, such as Atent and Concerta, will still require physical prescriptions.
Urgent cases and civilian prescriptions, such as those obtained in emergency rooms, can also be filled with manual prescriptions.
Expanding Access to Care:
“We set out with the aim of expanding the pharmacy service in the IDF in order to make it accessible to every soldier to receive medication,” said Major Juad Salama, head of the IDF Pharmacy section. “The branches of the civilian companies are spread all over the country so that a fighter on the frontlines will not have to travel hours to the clinic.”
The deputy head of the IDF’s Physician Services branch echoed this sentiment, stating, “Since the beginning of the war, we have expanded the deployment of the field of pharmacy in the army. In the past, soldiers had to come physically at every stage of the process. From now on, everything will be simpler, digital … and above all, more accessible.”
This digital advancement represents a significant step forward in providing accessible healthcare for IDF soldiers. The Medical Corps’ Technological and Logistics Directorate is actively working to expand digital prescriptions to other pharmacy chains, further simplifying medication access for those who serve.
