"Idina Menzel & Kristin Chenoweth’s Magical Cameo in the New Wicked Movie"
Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who originally played Elphaba and Glinda in the Broadway production of Wicked, have cameos in the new Wicked movie. They appear during the transition to Oz, wearing custom gowns designed by Paul Tazewell.
Tazewell shared that he had limited time to design the costumes but aimed for a theatrical look fitting the whimsical setting. He mentioned creating gowns that resembled Christmas trees made from folded book pages. He wanted the dresses to be light and sparkly, suitable for their roles as goddesses in the "Wizomania" scene.
Menzel’s gown is light pink, while Chenoweth’s is purple, flipping their colors from their Broadway roles. Tazewell intended for the costumes to represent opposites yet maintain a bright and sparkly appearance.
Both actresses shared behind-the-scenes photos from their filming day. Menzel reflected on the experience with the caption, "This was a special day. Sisterhood all around." Chenoweth described it as "the most magical time back in the emerald city."
The film’s official Instagram account posted a video of the pair on set, expressing, "The original Elphaba and Glinda return back to Oz." Wicked is currently showing in theaters.
