Yumi, a famous Japanese influencer who started out as an idol, has spoken out about her shocking experience with credit card fraud. On a recent episode of the Nippon TV talk show “Downtown DX,” Yumi revealed that her credit card had been used fraudulently by someone, resulting in significant financial losses.
The influencer shared that her credit card was being used for approximately 500,000 yen (around 4.71 million won) every month. Over the course of a year, this added up to a staggering 5 million yen (about 47 million won). Yumi expressed her confusion and concern, stating that she would have expected the perpetrator to use the card for expensive brand products, but instead, it was used for everyday purchases like Starbucks, taxis, subways, and delivery.
Yumi’s candid confession sparked laughter and sympathy from the audience, with many netizens responding with words of encouragement and sharing their own experiences with credit card fraud. Some suggested solutions and emphasized the importance of being vigilant about fraudulent activity.
Yumi’s career began as a member of the idol group BSJ Project in 2015. However, she put her idol activities on hold to care for her ailing father. In 2017, she transitioned to becoming a creator and has since been actively working as an influencer. Last year, she announced her marriage and pregnancy to her husband, Silk Road, a creator with 1.3 million subscribers.
Yumi’s story serves as a reminder to be mindful of credit card security and to report any suspicious activity to prevent further damage.
