Welsh Representation in Lions Squad Sparks Disappointment
Updated June 10, 2025
Ieuan Evans, chair of the British and irish Lions, expressed his disappointment that only two Welsh players were chosen for the upcoming tour of Australia. The Lions squad selection, lead by head coach Andy Farrell, includes just Jac Morgan, Ospreys flanker and Wales captain, and Gloucester scrum-half Tomos Williams.
This marks the lowest number of Welsh players selected for a Lions tour as World War II. Evans, who himself was one of five welsh players on the 1993 tour—the previous low—encouraged Morgan and Williams to fight for a spot in the test side. The Lions tour represents a significant prospect for both players to showcase their talent on an international stage.
