The cuts come despite reported year-over-year revenue increases, leaving employees and union representatives questioning the company’s priorities.
Layoffs Hit Content Creators and Engineering

Hunter Paniagua,an employee in the engineering department,is also among those affected, according to a representative from the Pacific Media Workers Guild.
“The company has told us that the reason for this layoff stems from a ziff Davis-mandate to cut costs despite several quarters in a row of year-over-year revenue increases, to which IGN Entertainment responded by coming for our members’ jobs,” the guild stated in a post on Bluesky. “This is perplexing to us, as we are told again and again that IGN entertainment has had a tremendously prosperous year thus far thanks to their hard work.”
The union is seeking answers regarding the rationale behind the layoffs, particularly in light of the company’s financial performance. They have also questioned whether the budget for future acquisitions is being reevaluated as a cost-saving measure.as of this writing,Ziff Davis has not responded to requests for comment.

Union Concerns and Future Outlook
The IGN Creators Guild is pushing for clarity from leadership regarding the long-term strategy and the impact of these cuts on the future of IGN’s content. The union’s statement highlights a growing concern among media workers about profitability being prioritized over the contributions of employees, even during periods of financial success.
The situation at IGN reflects a broader trend within the media industry, where companies are increasingly focused on streamlining operations and maximizing profits, sometimes at the expense of their workforce. the outcome of the union’s efforts to secure answers and protect its members remains to be seen.
