IIM-Calcutta Rape Case: SIT Formed, Police Seek CCTV Footage Amidst Discrepancies

Kolkata: In a significant development in the alleged rape case at IIM-Calcutta, the Kolkata Police have constituted a nine-member Special Examination Team (SIT) to thoroughly probe the matter. Simultaneously occurring,the accused,Parmanand Jain,has been remanded to seven-day police custody until July 19.
SIT Takes Charge of Investigation
The formation of the SIT underscores the seriousness wiht which the authorities are treating the case. “The DC Southwest Division has formed a 9-member special investigation team for the investigation into the case,” a police source was quoted as saying. This dedicated team is expected to bring a focused and extensive approach to uncovering the facts surrounding the alleged incident.
Police Seek Crucial CCTV Footage
As part of their ongoing investigation, the Kolkata Police have requested CCTV footage from July 11, covering the entire campus of IIM-Calcutta. This move is aimed at corroborating the timeline of events and verifying the movements of those involved.
Investigators have reportedly identified discrepancies in the victim’s account of her stay on campus on the day of the alleged incident. The CCTV footage is crucial for establishing the exact places the complainant visited within the institution and the duration of her presence there.
“We have sought the CCTV footage of July 11 of the entire campus. We need to see which places the survivor had gone inside the campus,” a police officer stated.
Furthermore, the investigators have reached out to the IIM-Calcutta authorities, seeking permission to question three students who were reportedly in contact with the accused after the alleged crime.
Victim’s Consent for Medico-Legal Test Awaited
Adding another layer to the investigation,the alleged victim has yet to provide her consent for a medico-legal test. “She is in an incommunicado mode. We are trying to get in touch with her,” a police official revealed. the consent for this test is vital for the forensic examination and to gather further evidence.
“There are certain discrepancies in her claims about the duration of her stay at the campus of the IIM-Calcutta. That is the reason we need the CCTV footage to cross-check the time when she entered the campus, which place she visited, and what time she left,” an officer from Haridevpur Police Station explained.The police are working diligently to piece together the events and ensure a fair and thorough investigation into this sensitive case.
