Il Sesana delle grandi sfide. La corsa di trotto montato – La Nazione
Mounted trotting has returned to the Sesana racecourse, bringing a specialty widely practiced in France back to the Italian competition circuit. The discipline represents a hybrid of trotting and galloping, where horses maintain the same pace as traditional trotting races, but the rider uses a saddle instead of a sulky. The introduction of mounted trotting to Italy was initiated by manager Vanni Parenti in the 1990s. Parenti sought to incorporate new ideas into the sector by studying countries where equestrian sports are highly developed and valued, specifically France and Sweden. While other venues, including Milan and Rome Capannelle, have since adopted the format, Sesana was the first Italian racecourse to host the spectacle. The racing program on May 8, 2026, began at 15:40. A primary focus of the event is the Premio Nene degli Ulivi, the third race of the program, which is scheduled to start at 16:45. The race utilizes an autostart system and features 11 older horses competing over a distance of 1,640 meters. Race Contenders and Participants The pairing of Edwing Jet and jockey Antonio Monteriso is among the favorites for the Premio Nene degli Ulivi, despite the horse having the final starting number. Other notable competitors include Illinois Rodi, who is considered a protagonist in the race despite the challenge of starting from position number six, and Itaki Jet. Exelon Indal is also expected to be a strong contender as the horse drops in category. Exelon Indal is guided by Alessio Vannucci, who is noted as one of the few drivers who favor this specialty, as the discipline is primarily dominated by jockeys and amazons. Market expectations indicate that the odds on the totalizator should be interesting for both Exelon Indal and Enzo Del Ronco.
